Revitalizing an Institution!
Pike Place Market is one of the top destination spots in Seattle for locals and visitors. It’s the oldest Farmer’s Market in the nation and has a rich history.
Friends of the Market (FOM) is the advocacy group that actually kept Pike Place Market from being torn down and turned into condos in the 1960’s. Without FOM there would be no Pike Place Market today. How amazing is that?
FOM is still very involved in the Market and the board wanted to jazz up their site with a more contemporary look, streamlined navigation and responsive design. They also wanted to have a Content Management System like the one WordPress provides.
For the graphics I used some of Victor Steinbreuck’s delightful illustrations in the layout. Victor was one of the founders of FOM and using his illustrations brought more of the historical aspect into the layout. Plus, they’re just cool.
We set them up with a new section of galleries showcasing the Market art, a page for videos and media, a section to announce events, and a MailChimp newsletter.
